He maunu ʻekaʻeka; pāpaʻi ka iʻa e hoʻi ai.
Without bait, one can only catch crabs.
July:
Aia ke ola i ka hana.
Life is in labor.
August:
E kaupē aku nō i ka hoe a kō mai.
Put forward the paddle and draw it back.
September:
E lawe i ke aʻo a mālama, a e ʻoi mau ka naʻauao.
He who takes his teachings and applies them increases his knowledge.
October:
ʻAʻohe pau ka ʻike i ka hālau hoʻokahi.
All knowledge is not taught in the same school.
November:
ʻAʻohe hua o ka maiʻa i ka lā hoʻokahi.
Bananas do not fruit in a single day.
